Tess + Kat

Welcome to our blog, we are Tess and Kat, two sisters - in law and friends who grew up in the wilds of Wales but now live on the South Coast of England with our husbands and kids who like to keep us on our toes.

Tess is mum to Elfin, seven, Zephy five and seven month Bay. She can’t remember a time when she didn’t want children and even remembers practicing on her little brother when he was born. Tess writes when she has time, loves camping and being outside, is often thinking of new ways to entertain the kids and runs the odd marathon when she needs a break from it all.

Kat is mum to Stevie, three, Flynn, 8 weeks and Frankie the dog, four. Kat is an illustrator, designer, photographer and general creative whiz who loves making things, collecting things and coming up with a million ideas a day! (Thanks for that bit Tess)

In 2006 we wrote a wrote a book called The Happy Campers, published by Bloomsbury, inspiring people to camp purely for the fun of it. We wrote about the practicalities of camping but also fun things to do, delicious food to eat and stars to spot and we filled it with photographs of our lives and our adventures. We had an amazing reaction to the book and though it’s been a while we’ve never lost our love of writing and creating.

When we became mums our lives changed beyond anything we could have imagined. We experienced amazing happiness alongside a tiredness we never knew was possible, we laughed, we cried, we cried some more. We sought advice and we winged it – a lot! We experienced unbelievable joy and total and utter doubt and more than anything we realised how precious this fleeting time with our children is.

With this blog we hope to inspire you to find a sense of play in your day. We want to celebrate the wonder of childhood as there is so much fun to be had, so many ideas to be shared and so much love to pass around.
